Leilani Munter – another vegan race car driver!
Leilani Munter is one of the most well-known female professional race car drivers and environmental activists in the world,. Discovery’s Planet Green named Munter the No. 1 Eco Athlete in the world, and she is a recipient of ELLE Magazine’s 2012 Genius Award. Munter races in the ARCA Series, a development league of NASCAR. She is the fourth woman in history to race in the Indy Pro Series, the development league of IndyCar. She set the record for the highest finish for a female driver in the history of Texas Motor Speedway when she finished fourth in 2006. Münter uses her race car to spread environmental awareness among 75 million race fans. With family ties in the music community – her brother-in-law is Grateful Dead guitarist and singer Bob Weir – Munter’s motto is “Never underestimate a vegetarian hippie chick with a race car.” Munter, an almost lifelong vegetarian, has been vegan since 2012. She says that “By adopting a more plant-based diet, we can each help curb climate change while also doing something good for our health, for animals, and for our taste buds. With more meat-free meals than ever being eaten today, we’re on the right track toward a more sustainable diet.”
