Country music star Carrie Underwood has won six Grammy awards, 16 Billboard Music awards, seven American Music awards and 11 Academy of Country Music awards (where does she keep them all?). But perhaps her greatest award is being a vegetarian and now nearly vegan. Carrie explains what started it all. Her experiences growing up on the family farm raising cattle in Oklahoma turned her off meat. “The worst part of the year for me was when we took some off to sell, because they would cry for each other for a couple of days,” Carrie said, “that’s why I don’t eat meat.” Carrie’s veg journey is a work in progress, “I’ve been a vegetarian for seven years, but after seeing a friend who looked amazing and had recently gone vegan, I thought, ‘What’s holding me back?’ Now I’m 95-percent vegan,” she says. Underwood blames that missing 5 percent on the occasional slice of birthday cake but regardless, it’s great to see her taking her health to the next level.
