For Kids

Cute kids feature 1.0

Vegfest is a Kid-Friendly Event

Vegfest is a kid-friendly event, with free admission for kids 12 and under, and booths featuring many foods that your kids will love. Wide aisles make it easy to navigate the event, even if you’re bringing the double-stroller with you.

This year in our new venue, we’re pleased to offer special children’s book readings given by physicians who’ve written special children’s books, near the Bookstore area upstairs.

Escalators and stairs to go upstairs are on the west side of the venue, midway along the room. There is an elevator for families with wheelchairs and strollers at the south end of the venue.

See the Schedule of Events and below for specifc book reading times.

Dr. Towolawi is a double board certified physician and author. She is the founder and medical director of Nurture Well Center — a direct primary care practice with a lifestyle medicine focus based in Shoreline, Washington. She was inspired to write her book: “Ayomide and Seyi’s Kitchen: A kids’ guide to plant-based nutrition from A to Z” as a physician AND as a mom to young children. She realized that if we can get children to make healthier choices as kids — they are more likely to make better health choices around food as adults.

Ayomide and Seyi’s Kitchen inspires children to develop a love for diverse plant foods at a young age by taking them on a whirlwind alphabet tour. The book is narrated by six year old Ayomide who takes you on a fictional tour of various plant-based foods, including some interesting facts – with his four year old little sister, Seyi, alongside him. This ABC book is a “bite-sized” course on plant-based nutrition while keeping readers engaged through beautiful illustrations. Families are encouraged to try some of the foods mentioned in the book and start getting creative in the kitchen … TOGETHER!

Dr Towolawi will be giving readings throughout the day on Saturday May 13, in the book reading section near the Vegfest Bookstore.

Dr Aisha Nnoli, MD, MPH, is a mother, physician and advocate for health equity and our environment who has an insatiable curiosity of our world. She believes in the power of women and children along with the importance of investing in those who are in need. During her spare time, this Washingtonian enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two sons.

What are greenhouse gases and why do they matter?

Good Morning Trees takes kids on a journey to understand climate change. The importance of how nature and human activity interact is shown through colorful illustrations and engaging text. This book gives insight on the necessity of balance in nature and how we can mitigate and adapt to make positive changes within our environment.

Good Morning Trees is the perfect introduction to climate change for curious kids ages 7 and up. Parents and educators can use this book to build a solid foundation in understanding greenhouse gases, how greenhouse gases contribute to climate change, sources and sinks of greenhouse gases as well as mitigation and adaptation strategies for climate change.

Dr Aisha Nnoli will be giving book readings throughout the day on Saturday, May 13th in the Children’s Book Reading section near the Vegfest Bookstore.
